It is not enough to merely know we have church libraries; we must transform them into libraries that truly are alive.

NCLA helps us do that.

National Church Library Association closes its doors after 54 years

After more than five decades of church library ministry, National Church Library Association (NCLA) has closed its doors. Struggling with declining membership and years of insufficient overall funding, leaders of the organization determined that NCLA could not in good faith enter a new membership year. A formal Plan of Dissolution was adopted by the members through a vote by mail this fall. The organization closed its doors on December 31, 2012. Read the full story and find more information about resources and help available to church librarians in the Fall 2012 issue of Libraries Alive.

To assist church librarians in finding help and resources after NCLA’s closing, we have created a new Resource List for Church Librarians.

What’s next for NCLA chapters?

Our NCLA chapters are currently having important discussions about their futures and how they will organize going forward. We are pleased to report that many of these local support groups have indicated they will continue to meet independently after the national organization has dissolved. To stay connected with our chapters, our Church Libraries Facebook page will remain active and serve as a bulletin board for group gatherings and announcements.
